NEW WORKSHOP: ‘Wild Luminscence’: A somatic journey to joy and liberation. Join Alex Hartshorn and Carleigh Roy on Saturday, June 20th, 3-5PM at Play Studio. Sign up under the “Movement Sessions” category.

Hi, I’m Alex! My approach to counselling is body-based and insight-oriented, using a variety of somatic techniques and parts work. I believe that change happens through an empowering of you to release burdens and stress, process trauma (it can get trapped in the body), grow yourself, and author your own story. While all of us have this possibility, sometimes we can get stuck in the patterns or symptoms that are working so hard to keep us functioning and protected. I tend to work with adults who feel like they are stuck; stuckness can show up in the form of issues within the family system or environment, difficulties connecting with others and cultivating relationships, loss of relationships, loneliness and disconnection, a loss of purpose, significant life transitions, chronic stress, difficulty feeling a sense of safety and security, and recurring intense emotions such as anxiety, anger, or sadness, that can feel debilitating and confusing. Despite our best efforts, we can remain in suffering which prevents us from going down the paths or creating the opportunities that lead us more into our authentic selves and to what we truly desire. I enjoy working with older teens, adults, and couples or small groups in any kind of relationship dynamic, and with people from all walks of life.

My experiences throughout the last 15 years in movement and expressive arts informs my practice, and I believe that creativity generates possibility. In therapy, it’s crucial that modalities are integrated and align with each individual, and that above all else there is a good relationship and sense of collaboration established. Together with the wisdom of the body we can explore what it is you need to feel more balanced and connected to what matters. I endeavor to create a safe space where every body feels welcome and accepted. I am here to support and advocate for you and move with you on your journey!

At the heart of therapy is the invitation to tell your story, to explore your inner world, and to find new ways of moving through life. As a counsellor and theatre artist, I believe that healing is rarely linear, and that it often requires more than just words to truly unlock growth. Whether you are navigating major life transitions, processing challenges, or looking for a way to reconnect with yourself, I am here to hold space for your experience with empathy and curiosity.

I view therapy as a collaborative, creative partnership. My practice is deeply rooted in client-centred care, where your unique history, culture, and goals guide our work together. Because I believe in the power of the whole person, I bridge traditional clinical approaches with creative expression. I ground our work in CBT, providing practical tools to help you manage anxiety, shift unhelpful patterns, and build emotional resilience. And sometimes, the things we carry are hard to put into words. Creative, somatic, and play-based techniques allow you to explore challenges from new perspectives, access deeper emotions, and foster self-expression in a way that feels safe and liberating. As an Ecuadorian-Canadian practitioner, I hold a deep commitment to culturally safe, inclusive, and anti-oppressive practice. I bring extensive experience supporting newcomers, Indigenous communities, and individuals navigating the complexities of identity and belonging. I am also particularly passionate about supporting children, youth, and adults as they move through life’s pivots; as I currently deepen my specialization in Play Therapy, this allows me to offer even more dynamic and effective tools for healing and growth. When you step into a session with me, you can expect a space that is warm, authentic, and free of judgment. However we are diving into your story, my goal is to help you build self-compassion and develop the resilience needed to face life’s challenges with more ease. Healing is a unique journey, and I would be honoured to walk alongside you as you navigate yours. Beyond the therapy room, my background as a theatre artist and Artistic Director fuels my belief in the transformative power of storytelling. I am thrilled to be joining Alex and the team at Sincerely Somatic, where we share a common vision for holistic, heart-centred wellness.

If you are ready to begin, I invite you to book a session or a consultation. Let’s create the space you need to grow, heal, and thrive.

We often hold a quiet, internal wisdom about what we need to move through life’s hardest moments—even when that voice feels buried under the noise of anxiety or the weight of challenging relationships. If you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted by the demands of your personal life, I am here to help you turn down that noise. I believe that therapy shouldn’t feel like being “fixed,” but rather like coming home to yourself.

My role is to hold a safe, steady, and collaborative space where you can rediscover your own inner compass and build the tools to trust it again. My practice is grounded in a person-centered approach, meaning you are the expert on your life. I weave in CBT for practical, tangible shifts, while deepening the work through trauma-informed care and modalities like Internal Family Systems and other parts work. I bring a fresh, dedicated energy to our work, am deeply committed to ongoing education and to showing up as my full, authentic self in our sessions. I specialize in supporting individuals who are navigating the complexities of anxiety and overwhelm, relationship and life changes, and the impact of substance use. Having walked these paths both professionally and personally, I understand the unique blend of grief, hope, and exhaustion that comes with loving someone through addiction and transitions.

You deserve a space where you don’t have to perform or hold it all together—a space where you are truly heard, deeply understood, and supported in every step of your process. If you are ready to start feeling a little more steady, I invite you to reach out for a consultation. Let’s see if we are a good fit for this next chapter of your journey.
