Counselling

My counselling practice is somatic, experiential, relational, and insight-oriented. I use a blend of therapies such as body-mind centering, hakomi, parts work, and EMDR. These modalities empower you to connect to self, release burdens & stress, process trauma, and author your own story.

Movement & Dance

Expressive Movement & Somatics in class or group form-- connect to like-minded individuals, cultivate community, move emotions and events together in solidarity, build a greater sense of connection to self and others, live authentically and embodied!

Hi, I’m Alex! My approach to counselling is body-based and insight-oriented, using a variety of somatic techniques and parts work. I believe that change happens through an empowering of you to release burdens and stress, process trauma (it can get trapped in the body), grow yourself, and author your own story. While all of us have this possibility, sometimes we can get stuck in the patterns or symptoms that are working so hard to keep us functioning and protected. I tend to work with adults who feel like they are stuck; stuckness can show up in the form of issues within the family system or environment, difficulties connecting with others and cultivating relationships, loss of relationships, loneliness and disconnection, a loss of purpose, significant life transitions, chronic stress, difficulty feeling a sense of safety and security, and recurring intense emotions such as anxiety, anger, or sadness, that can feel debilitating and confusing. Despite our best efforts, we can remain in suffering which prevents us from going down the paths or creating the opportunities that lead us more into our authentic selves and to what we truly desire. I enjoy working with older teens, adults, and couples or small groups in any kind of relationship dynamic, and with people from all walks of life.

My experiences throughout the last 15 years in movement and expressive arts informs my practice, and I believe that creativity generates possibility. In therapy, it’s crucial that modalities are integrated and align with each individual, and that above all else there is a good relationship and sense of collaboration established. Together with the wisdom of the body we can explore what it is you need to feel more balanced and connected to what matters. I endeavor to create a safe space where every body feels welcome and accepted. I am here to support and advocate for you and move with you on your journey!

To know oneself deeply—to understand why the inner voice can sometimes be harsh, why we fear the future or regret the past—takes courage. My aim as a counsellor is to support you as you come to know and love the most authentic version of who you are. While it can be difficult to embark on this work alone or even with those whom we most love, I know the importance of building a strong therapeutic alliance for bringing about effective change in life, and I am motivated by exploring life’s biggest questions and existential concerns. I work with people who experience depression and anxiety symptoms, as well as grief, loss, trauma, and climate anxiety, and, foremostly, those who are in search of a more meaningful life—those who want to live more authentically, compassionately, and courageously.

Before turning toward counselling psychology, I spent 17 years working with adult learners at the University of Saskatchewan. I have taught philosophy courses and built peer mentorship, leadership, and learning community programs. These experiences, combined with my passion for lifelong learning, contribute to my ability to foster a safe space to tackle life’s greatest questions and challenges. My approach is informed by existential and strengths-based therapies, which focuses on fundamental human concerns like freedom, responsibility, and meaning, and your own inner strengths that support you in movement toward your goals. I have additional training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which helps you to identify and live in alignment with your values. My practice is guided by a growing interest in somatic therapies, which endorses the unity of body and mind and supports and restores from within.

As a current MA-level practicum student in Counselling Psychology and a student member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, I am currently qualified to practice counselling under supervision.
